Islamic Culture

Like the cosmic structure, man's societal make-up is also hierarchical: it is well represented by a pyramid, which is broadest at the base and narrowest at the top. Take a democratic government, for instance: at the bottom stand millions of voters, but as the political Organization rises higher, on the top is found a small cabinet headed by one person known as the President or Prime Minister. There may be countless individuals in political parties, competing for power. This results from man's Dominance-Urge, which makes a person power-hungry and he wants to command others by gaining ascendancy over them. History is the manifestation of this urge (drive): without it, there will be no Alexander's, Chengiz Khans or Napoleons. These remarks equally apply to the administrative, judicial and social hierarchies. However, intensity of the Dominance-Urge varies in different people. Its highest expression is not to be found amongst conquerors and rulers but the category of men, who distinguish themselves as Prophets. The reason is that when a ruler dies, with him perishes his Dominance-Urge because he cannot tell people what to do and what not to do, but this fact is reversed in the case of a Prophet, who commands his people from beyond the grave through the Law, which he leaves behind as the Divine Guidance or Word of God: the Koran is one such code of law, which its followers believe, shall last forever irrespective of its relevance to the changed times.

Prophet Muhammad, who presented the Koran to mankind was a wise man, and possessed an unusually acute Urge of Dominance. He aspired to be acknowledged, not as God, but God's Superior, and he wanted to deify himself through national dignity. In simple language, it means that he wanted to weld his fellow Arabs into a strong fighting force, which should rule the world but in his name so that he could act as the head of the Arab imperialism. This type of scheme could not have been imagined by the Indian leaders such as Gandhi, who sought Godhead through the degradation of his people by addicting them to the opium of Ahimsa. Muhammad's wisdom lay in realizing the value of culture: he seems to have known that man is basically endowed with a potential of development, and he becomes according to how he cultivates his potential; if he is trained to be brave and fearless, he becomes a warrior, a conqueror and honorable, but if he is taught cowardice in the guise of non-violence, he grows up as a mouse, which knows nothing about self-respect, honor and high morality. Thus, culture represents the refinement which results from the cultivation of one's potential. Therefore, culture is the ambassador of man's destiny. Whether he becomes a saint or Satan, depends upon the magnitude of his cultural achievement.

Culture is not just an individual concept, it equally applies to a nation. The Arabs of that time were an inferior race for practicing principles and traditions, which led to social discord and national degradation. The only way Prophet Muhammad could raise their stature was, by accustoming them to superior cultural values, having the power to unite them into a proud nation. Since the Arab psyche had been adversely affected by the Jewish claims of racial superiority and mundane prosperity, he asserted: "Of the two tribes that God chose as the best were the descendants of Ishmael and Isaac. God preferred the children of Ishmael (the Arabs) to the children of Isaac (the Jews). Then God created Muhammad in the chosen tribe of Quresh (the descendants of Ishmael ) and then He chose Muhammad as the best of ad men." (Jame Tirmze, Vol: 2) 

One can clearly see here the following facts:

  1. Both the Jews and Arabs are chosen people but the Arabs are superior to the Jews.

  2. Muhammad is the best of all men.

These two points indicate their mutual relationship, that is, superiority of the Arabs as a race and that of Muhammad are co- dependent. This proves my view that Muhammad wanted to deify himself through Arab Imperialism i e. by raising a great Arab nation capable of spreading his reverence through sustained ascendancy. Muhammad's sagacity is vouched for by the fact that he did not rely just on the force of national arms but turned the Arab culture itself into the dominant culture, which once established, should be self-perpetuating without any external aid. India provides evincing evidence to this fact: Muhammad Bin Qasim and his likes used torture, tyranny and torment to introduce Islam to the Land of the Vedas but long after the demise of the Muslim rule, the Islamic culture was able to achieve what the ferocity of the combined Muslim reign of centuries had failed to accomplish. In 1947, the Muslims declared that their Islamic culture did not permit them to live with the Kafirs (the Hindus), and thus they were able to make a successful demand to partition India. It was the greatest tragedy that could have befallen any country but such a grievous loss can be felt by the patriots only, and not by the practitioners of Ahimsa, who will suffer any indignity to breathe a little longer.

 What are the fundamentals of the Islamic culture and how does it work? Here is a brief sketch of Muhammad's plan:

1. Muhammad, had idolatrous parentage. Prior to declaring Islam, he was known to have been a regular visitor to the Kaaba, the chief Arab temple, organized on the Vedic principle of Triad. The history also testifies to the fact that he was confirmed in his ancestral faith in the Kaaba by his grandfather Abdul Muttalib according to the pagan rites of the time. He must have practiced his ancestral religion until he was forty years old when Gabriel brought him a written message from Allah and commanded him to read it. At that time, Muhammad was meditating in a cave called "Hera." When he expressed his inability to read Allah's message, Gabriel (Jibrail Farista) became aggressive and tried to strangle him three times, that is, each time Muhammad expressed his inability to read. This episode clearly expresses Allah's desperation for finding a Prophet and Muhammad's reluctance to act as one. In fact, this is the starting point for exhibiting his superiority over Allah, who is determined to persuade him through all means, including violence.

What is a prophet? In the Semitic culture, a Prophet is God's appointee through whom He reveals Himself. It is because God wants to guide mankind to save them from hell-fire, and thus needs a Prophet (also known as Messenger), who can give people His message. This makes Prophet hood a very subtle device to make God as an incompetent Creator because He relies on a man (Prophet) for the conveyance of His message. If God is really Absolute, Omniscient and the most competent Creator, as Islam repeatedly declares, He could have created a self-guided man to avoid embarrassment of depending on a Prophet to do His work. This is what makes Prophet hood a supplement to God, reducing His Divine splendor, solemnity and supremacy. What makes things even more derogatory to God is the fact that the Prophet is just a human: he is born in the normal process, eats, drinks, walks, talks, eats, etc., and eventually dies. These remarks, which apply to a Prophet physically, equally hold good morally, too, though the Muslims believe that a Prophet is innocent and cannot commit a sin. This is a mistaken belief and collides with the Koran: " God may forgive thee (Muhammad) thy former and thy latter sins, and complete His blessings upon thee, and guide thee on a straight path" ( XLV lil - Victory: 1) It means that a Prophet commits sin like ordinary people and requires constant guidance from Allah to walk on the straight path. In other words, a Prophet is fallible. The God who relies on such a person so completely and needs him so desperately that Gabriel uses violence to enroll him as a Prophet, is Himself fallible, to say the least. Such a God cannot be the true God.

 Again, I may also make it clear that Muhammad was not born guided because firstly, he did not declare his Prophet hood until he was forty years old; secondly, his wife Khadija converted to Islam when he broke the news to her about what had happened in the cave. One must remember that they had been married long before this event, and Islam does not allow a Muslim man to marry a non- Muslim woman. Evidently, Muhammad himself was not a Muslim prior to this episode, and practiced his ancestral faith. Since this is a very important issue, it cannot be left to interpretation. In fact, this is not necessary because the Koran itself confirms this truth: "And thus have we (Allah) inspired in thee (Muhammad) a spirit of Our command. Thou knewest not what the Scripture (Divine guidance) was, nor what the Faith (Islam)." (XLIII - Ornaments of Gold: 52)

It shows that Prophet hood being a highly defective device, cannot represent the dignity of God. In fact, it is a gross insult to God and serves as the medium for man to present himself as God's superior. It is the most powerful and compulsive form of dominance urge that makes man feel greater than God and he acts accordingly to prepare religious system to brainwash people. The central point of Prophet hood is that the Prophet declares himself to be a man who has been chosen by God to disseminate His message. Thus, the Prophet is God's agent, but this agency is absolutely exclusive to him: God speaks only through him and cannot be approached without him. Thus, whatever he says becomes the Word of God. This is a very sharp and subtle form of idolatry because as God cannot be seen or contacted, the Prophet begins to rank as the Symbol of God exactly the same way as an ordinary statue is regarded the token of a deity.

 To my mind, Muhammad is the most prominent figure in the world of Prophet hood. Moses, certainly, raised the Jewish nation on the same principle but his people though materially well off, have been the target of world's slight, subjugation and slaughter but Muhammad prepared such a culture based on the doctrine of Prophet hood that the Arabs now, despite being a backward nation, as well as the source of regression for all the Muslim world, hold a position of respect, repute and resplendence. This is the true miracle of Muhammad, and it is unique. Why? Men of other races have claimed to be gods but it remained an individual affair and they were, chiefly, worshipped by their own nations only; names of the Egyptian Pharaohs and Roman Emperors are some of the examples. But Muhammad proclaimed his Godhead through the glory of his nation. This is the cornerstone of the Arab culture; he prepared a strong and unified nation inspired by the ideal of self- significance and imperial dreams, but dedicated to projecting' Muhammad as the "Best of Mankind" and God's Superior. Thus Muhammad made the success of his own nation as the mark of his victory. How did he do it? He declared: "There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is His Rasool." (Messenger i .e. Prophet). Though the Koran repeatedly says that  mentioning someone else's name with the name of Allah is the only unpardonable sin, we can see that Muhammad has his name incorporated with the name of Allah. The purpose of this device is to indicate the parity of Muhammad with that of Allah. This is called Shahadat i.e. the basic confession, which makes a person Muslim. Just belief in Allah does not render a person Muslim. Obviously, Allah is nothing on His own though He may claim to be the Creator, all-powerful, Omniscient, and so on.

When Muhammad was politically weak, he emphasized his humility as a human and glorified Allah but when he became powerful, he reversed the relationship between him and Allah because he himself became the object of worship by Allah:   "Lo! Allah and His angels pray peace to the Prophet ( Muhammad ) O ye who also pray peace to him and salute him with a worthy salutation." (XXX - The Clans: 56) Simply stated, this verse means that Allah and His angels worship Muhammad because when the Muslims (apparently) worship God, they actually pray peace to Him. Is it not strange that in every religion, it is man who worships God but in Islam, it is God, who along with his angels, worships Muhammad? This is an extreme case of Dominance-Urge, which incites man to be even God's Superior, and it is the device of Prophet hood that enables him to achieve this goal.

Now, one can see that in fact, Muhammad is Allah, who tolerates no peer, and declares that there is no God but He. This necessitates the elimination of all other Gods. To achieve this end, he laid down the cardinal rule, Which has become a fountain of Islamic culture:  "It is He (Allah) who has sent His Messenger with the guidance and the religion of truth (Islam), that He may make it dominant over every religion. Muhammad is the Messenger of God, and those who are with him are hard against the unbelievers, merciful to one another." ( XLVIII Victory: 25 )

 

Thus the Cardinal rule of the Islamic Culture is:  

1. All Gods are false except Allah (who prays peace to Muhammad along with His angels).

2. Islam is the only true religion and it is the duty of all Muslims to make it dominate over all other faiths.

3. The method of making it dominant over other faith is that the Muslims must be kind to one another but harsh to the unbelievers.

The last i.e. no. 3 serves as the Divine wrath on mankind and therefore deserves further explanation: Islam, in fact, is a perpetual declaration of war against all those, who do not believe in Muhammad. This war is not confined to words but it is really brutish, barbaric and bewildering. It makes society a hot bed of mutual hatred based on discrimination of Momeen (Muslim) and Kafir (non-Muslim). Thus, it ignites the flame of eternal conflict far more dangerous, debilitating and devastating than Karl-Marx could ever visualize: "They (unbelievers) are Satan's party they are the losers.... Those (the Muslims) are God's party....they are the prosperers." (LVIII The Disputer: 20)

The Muslims are commanded to wage an everlasting war against the unbelievers and are assured victory in the struggle. Surely, the Marxist social philosophy is an extension of the Koranic doctrine. 

 

To realize the significance of this statement, one ought to read the following:

  1. On unbelievers is the curse of Allah. (The Cow: 161 )  

  2. Allah is an enemy to unbelievers. ( The Cow: 15 )

  3. The worst of beasts in Allah's sight are the ungrateful, who will not

  believe. (Spoils of War: 55)

  4. Oh ye who believe! the non-Muslims are unclean. (Repentance:17)

  5. Oh ye who believe! Murder those of the disbelievers and let them find harshness in you. (Repentance: 123)

  6. Oh believers, do not treat your fathers and mothers as your friends, if they prefer unbelief to belief, whosoever of you takes them for friends, they   are evil-doers. (Repentance: 20)

  7. Humiliate the non-Muslims to such an extent that they surrender and pay   tribute.  (Repentance: 29 )

Through the doctrine of hatred, Islam incites Muslims against non-Muslims and proposes Jihad as the solution to make Islam the dominant faith. What is Jihad? It is the battle against unbelievers such as the Hindus, the Christians, the Jews, the atheists - in fact, unbelievers of all sorts. Since humans do not like harming innocent people, Jihad is nothing but an inducement to murder and plunder non-Muslims for the sheer crime of not believing in Muhammad. It is called a "holy war." Those who return home victoriously, come laden with booty, which includes wealth and non-Muslim women for concubinage and free seduction but those "crusaders" who are killed "in the way of Allah" go straight to paradise where ever-young virgins of exquisite beauty and pretty boys anxiously wait to serve them! Even more stunning is the fact that while every code of moral conduct treats murder, rape, plunder, lechery as sins, Islam counts them as acts of piety. The Jihad, which is an integral part of the Islamic culture, explains its moral values.

With a view to making sure that Muslims follow the Prophet blindly, he claimed that he had Intercessory Powers, which will enable him to decide on the Day of Judgment as who will go to paradise. It is only his followers who will qualify for this treat, and it matters not if they were murderers, thieves, rapists, liars. or traitors. Look at the following:   "...truly this is the word of a noble Messenger having power, with the Lord of the Throne secure, obeyed, moreover trusty." (LXXXI: The Darkening: 20)

This is interpreted by the Muslims to mean that on the Day of Judgment, the Prophet Muhammad will share the Throne of Justice with Allah, and will sit on His right hand side; it is he who will make recommendations as who should enter paradise, and his recommendations are binding on Allah! Who will be recommended by the Prophet Muhammad? The answer to this question constitutes what may be termed as the Master stroke of Muhammad, binding on all non-Arab Muslims, no matter where they are. The Koran says: "You (The Muslims) have had a good example in God's Messenger for whosoever hopes for God and the Last Day, and remembers God oft." (XXXIII - The Confederates: 20) In plain English, it means that Prophet Muhammad is the Model of Behavior for all those who believe in him. If they "hope for God and the Last Day," they must follow in his footprints. The more closely they do so, the better their chances of getting recommended by the Prophet! Thus, it has become an integral part of the Islamic faith that to be a Muslim one must walk, talk, eat, drink, look, think, and act like the Prophet. This being man- worship, is the worst form of idolatry, but this is not the subject under deliberation.

  What I am discussing is the Master Cultural Stroke of the Prophet. Though it has destroyed the dignity of the non-Arab Muslim nations and has become the main cause of their regression, I applaud the Prophet's ingenuity and his concern for permanently raising the imperial status of his own people i.e. the Arabs, by making the Arab Culture as the Divine Culture. Since Culture means the way of life, all non-Arab Muslims qualify as the Arabian slaves for imitating the Arab culture without any external coercion. The central point of this argument is that a Muslim must think and act like the Prophet; as the Prophet loved Arabia, its institutions and Practiced its culture, so must do his followers as a matter of faith, which is far more powerful than reason for being blind, boisterous and barbaric. How did the Prophet perform this miracle? Here is a tiny sketch of this scheme, which speaks for itself:

1. First, he created the fundamental distinction between Muslims and non-Muslims and prescribed a society in which the Muslims are permanently at war with the non-Muslims.

2. With a view to making his own country i.e. Arabia the beneficiary of this Momin-Kafir struggle, he made reverence of the Arab institutions and customs as an integral part of the Islamic faith.

For example, he declared Kaaba, the central Arab shrine, as the House of Allah, and asserted that Allah Himself had ordered Adam, the progenitor of mankind, to build this house for Him. (The faithful do not realize that if Allah is dependent on Adam for housing Him, how can He be the Creator of the universe? But in faith, reasoning has no place; the darker it is, the greater protection it provides against the harshness of real life.)

3. Kaaba is also the Kibla i.e. the direction of worship. This has created slavish mentality among the non-Arab Muslims in relation to Arabia because they have to bow, bend and beseech Allah, who lives there, at least five times a day. This is, in fact, a daily salutation to the Arabian soil!

4. A Muslim's grave must be dug in a way that his body when buried, faces Kaaba (Mecca). Looking towards Arabia even after one's death shows one's total subordination to Arabia and betrays one's sense of self- humiliation to Mecca, the birth place of Muhammad .

5. So sacred is Mecca that nobody must defecate himself facing this city. He who does so, is a Kafir ( faithless ) .

6. Every Muslim, no matter where he lives, must come to Mecca for pilgrimage, provided he has the means to do so. This is a pre-Islamic custom of Arabia, which the Prophet Muhammad incorporated in Islam for its economic benefits to his country.

7. Allah speaks Arabic, and the Koran is also in Arabic, which is a difficult language to learn. All Muslims must speak Arabic to earn Allah's blessing. See, how Allah favors Arabia! In fact, this is the most effective device to impose Arabian culture on non-Arab Muslims as the Divine behest.

8. Kaaba is the center of God's blessings because it is here that one-hundred-and-twenty Divine Benedictions descend every day, and are there from distributed to the rest of the world.

9. Even the Arabian graveyards known as "Jannat-ul-Mualla" and "Janmnat-ul-Baqee," are the most sacred. According to a hadith, they look shining to the dwellers of the skies the same way as sun and moon appear to the people of the earth. Those who are buried there, shall enter paradise without any accountability, and each of them shall be privileged to intercede for seventy thousand people! What a glory of the Arabian soil and even the ordinary dead Arabs, who are buried there! No wonder that the Muslim pilgrims want to die and be buried there. For this reason, they sell their houses, land and cattle to raise money for the holy journey, which is beneficial to Arabia but detrimental to their own families.

10. Ibne Majah reports in Hadith no. 1463, page 404, that a Namaz i.e., prayer in the Mosque-in-Medina brings 100 times more blessings than a similar prayer in other mosques; and a prayer in the Kaaba invokes 100,000 benedictions compared to a similar worship in other mosques. Here one can see the preference that the Prophet Muhammad has bestowed on the Arabian soil in relation to the national homelands of the non-Arab Muslims. This is how he brainwashed them with the sanctity, superiority and supremacy of the Arab culture. He achieved this goal by projecting himself as the Divine model of behavior: as he loved Arabia, all non-Arab Muslims must love Arabia and be indifferent to their own homelands to the tune of treason. This is exactly what happened in India during 1947. The Muslims divided their own country by pretending to be not Indians but a Muslim nation. They are still holding the same position by opposing introduction of unified civil code which is extremely harmful to the Indian unity but beneficial to Arabian culture.

 

Islamic Morality  

Man is born with a moral sense which enables him to differentiate between right and wrong. Without subjecting behavior to a common standard of vice and virtue, social evolution is not possible. This is the reason that even the primitive societies had words which denoted difference between good and bad. All societies did not practice universal standards of vice and virtue, yet it is well known that almost all communities knew what was good and bad. For example, mutual fidelity of consorts, speaking the truth, keeping promises, respecting family ties, helping the poor and weak, were considered signs of good morality. Of course, morality cannot be coded but its rules are well understood. From this attitude arose the famous maxim: "Do not do to others what you do not want to be done to yourself."

It means that you must wish others what you wish for yourself. Since every one desires security of person and property, liberty to worship, fair trial, freedom of speech etc., these facts, over a period of time, rose to become what is called Human Rights. He who violates these rights is held the enemy of humankind. When Islamic morality is judged by universal standards, this Arabian religion fails to qualify as the friend and guide of humanity. In fact, it constitutes a major threat to the survival of human race. I have no doubt that the Muslims will protest against this point of view, and as usual, will produce far- fetched and irrational evidence to prove that Islam advocates love and brotherhood of mankind. This type of sorcery has worked wonders for Muslim fundamentalists in the past, but with the dissemination of knowledge, it is difficult to cloud the truth with the magic of misinterpretation, marvel of memorization and mysticism of meaning-less ness.

Islam has become a set of fundamentals which preach social segregation, hatred of non-Muslims and elimination of dissenters through dominance, death and destruction. These conclusions, no matter how true, cannot be palatable to the Muslims and therefore rank as fabrications, from their standpoint. I can do no better than quote from the Koran to decide the issue. Examine the following for yourself:

  1. "Do not let non-Muslims enter mosques. They will go to hell." (  Repentance: 17 )

  2. "O ye who believe! The non-Muslims are unclean. So let them not come near the Inviolable Place of Worship." (Repentance: 28)

  3. "O ye who believe! Murder those of the disbelievers .... and let them find   harshness in you." (Repentance: 123)

  4. "Humiliate the non-Muslims to such an extent that they surrender and pay   tribute." (Repentance: 29)

  5. "O believers, do not treat your fathers and brothers as your friends, if   they prefer unbelief to belief, whosoever of you takes them for friends, they   are evil-doers." (Repentance: 20)

  6. "Certainly, God is an enemy to the unbelievers." ( The Cow: 90 )

  7. "God has cursed the unbelievers, and prepared for them a blazing hell." ( The Confederates 60 )

  8. "Let not the believers take the unbelievers for friends.... whoso does that   belongs not to God." (The House of Imram: 60)

  9. "O believers, do not make friends with the Jews and Christians; ..whoso of you makes them his friend is one of them." (The Table: 55)

  10. "The believers indeed are brothers." ( Apartments: 10 )

  11. "Muslims are hard against the unbelievers, merciful to one another." (Victory: 25)

A Muslim naturally believes in all such Koranic verses, which determine his social outlook and he becomes a narrow- minded sectarian. This psychological approach is the fountain of fundamentalism. It is a myth to say that Islam advocates good relationship with the People of the Book, that is, the Jews and Christians. What I have said at quotation-9 above supports this statement. If this were not enough, one could refer the matter to hadith,  the sayings of the Prophet: Chapter LXXI of Sahih Muslim clearly states that since Islam is the religion for the entire humanity, it abrogates all other faiths. To illustrate the point further, the hadith no.285 asserts that any Jew or Christian who has heard of Muhammad but does not believe in him, will become "one of the denizens of Hell-Fire." The Islamic fundamentalism has become the foundation of Islamic morality. What makes it a threat to human survival is the fact that it is not a passive approach but advocates active aggression to impose itself on the unbelievers. Why? It gives several reasons for this. Let me quote two:

  1. "Muslims are the best of all nations." (House of Imran: 110). Obviously, the best nation is superior to other people, who must wear the yoke of discrimination.

  2. The prophet Muhammad has been sent by God with "the religion of Truth, that He may cause it to prevail over all religions.." (Private Apartments: 28)

Simply stated it means that Muslims are superior to non- Muslims and have the birth-right to dominate them. This is why Islam calls itself Din-e-Ghalib, the religion of dominance. As every student of psychology knows, the purpose of any fundamentalism is to secure blind following from its adherents. This is possible only when they are conditioned to a certain object or goal which begins to rank as the sole purpose of their lives. As a result, the purpose begins to overrule the method of acquisition; whatever secures it is good and whatever obstructs it is bad. In a nutshell, people must stop thinking for themselves, especially in terms of morality. As the Marxists brainwashed people in the name of proletarianism and what it stood for, the Muslims have been conditioned to the person of the prophet Muhammad, who is projected as the savior of his followers, having complete power to find them permanent residence in paradise, which is the abode of luxury, love making and lasciviousness. Since Muslims, in most countries are deprived, depressed and desolated, they are prepared to do anything to uphold the honor of the Prophet. For total obedience, they are at liberty to indulge in the most convenient morality such as mendacity, rape, murder, theft and treason without losing their chance of entering the paradise which has been absolutely guaranteed by their faith in the prophet Muhammad.

A corollary of this belief is the oppression of non-Muslims by the Muslims, who deny human rights to the unbelievers for upholding the Islamic precepts in relation to the infidels. As a result, non-Muslims are discouraged to live in the Muslim countries even if they have originally belonged to their ancestors (Bangalee Hindus). It is justified on the precedent that the prophet Muhammad expelled all Jews and unbelievers from Arabia. The modern example is that of Pakistan, the original home of the Hindus. There were millions of non-Muslims in this land before the partition of India but as Pakistan came into being they all were thrown out through malice, mutilation and massacre. On the contrary, over 100,000,000 Muslims live in India and demand human rights! In Islamic countries, the non- Muslim minorities are either non-existent or very tiny indeed (Bangladesh where Bangalee Hindus are reduced from 35% in 1971 to less than 10% in 2001.) This strangulation of human rights has become a part of the Islamic morality.

Since Islam is the Din-e-Ghalib i.e. the religion of dominance by God's will, Muslim minorities in non-Islamic countries do everything possible to harass, humiliate and harangue the host countries to practice their faith and culture. The "Muslim Parliament" of Great Britain is an example in point. In fact, this coterie of a few hundred Muslim fanatics, is a mockery of the British tolerance and hospitality. Its major role is to collect donations from its adherents, forbid Muslims to seek identification with Great Britain and practice all rules of Islamic intolerance towards the host community. There is no concept of parliamentary government in Islam, whatever, yet these hatred-mongers have set up this association in the Land of Magna Carta, dedicated to liberty. It is only a matter of time before the British government take notice of its evil influence on the British culture, causing problems also for those who have adopted the British ways and are proud to be sincere citizens of this land. Use of violence for securing worldly goal and terrorization of non-Muslims are the pillar of Islamic morality. It is done through:

  1. secular laws which are made in the name of Islam, and

  2. the laws which Allah has framed and require no legislative authority and procedures.

Now, let us ponder over these two points:  

 Islam declares Muhammad the greatest of all prophets and therefore reserves the highest reverence for him. This has become an article of faith. A Muslim, unwilling to force it on others, is considered deficient in belief. As a result, every Muslim looks for an opportunity to demonstrate the magnitude of his faith by molesting non-Muslims, and even fellow- believers who express less bigotry in this field. Politicians (Jinnah, Zia, Ershad, Golam Azam, Nizami) have seized upon this emotional condition of the Muslim mind to enhance their grip on power. For example, Pakistan has passed Toheen -e- Rasul ACT (Contempt of Prophet's Act), which prescribes death for insulting the prophet Muhammad. Such an Act has never been passed in the world of Islam during the last fourteen centuries; nor is there any religious justification for it. In fact such a law in itself is a gross contempt of the prophet, who wanted to be known as the Blessing for mankind. A person who is so conscious of himself cannot be the Blessing for lacking tolerance and understanding of the human behavior. Yet they have done it to terrorize the dissidents and non-Muslims. The treatment of the Qadiyanis and Christians in Pakistan, speak for itself. In fact, it is an ambassador of moral perversion which is an echo of the European Inquisition conducted by the Christian clerics to defend the holiness of their savior, Jesus Christ.

This Islamic exploitation of the believers has led to their moral bankruptcy, and this fact is well demonstrated by what happened in Pakistan during the middle of April, 1994: Hafiz Sajjad Tariq of Gujranwala in Pakistan, accidentally dropped a copy of the Koran in a fireplace. As it caught fire, people of the locality became aflame with rage. Not caring that Sajjad was a pious Muslim devoted to exalt holiness of the Scripture (Koran), they alleged that he had desecrated the Word of God. As mullahs of the area heard of it, they instantly issued Fatwas of apostasy against Sajjad. Like hawks, the fundamentalists swooped down on him, each hoping that his blow would dispatch the victim to hell assuring him (the assailant) a seat in paradise. As they were hitting him, someone shouted that he was being dished out an un-Islamic punishment because he must be stoned to death. By then, they had broken his ribs and he was not able to walk. A gallant police officer intervened and locked him up with a view to saving him from mob-violence. As the news spread, a large crowd of frenzied Muslims appeared before the local police- station demanding his immediate release. The Police Inspector, instead of enforcing the law, fell for the temptation of establishing himself as the champion of Islam and handed Sajjad to the attackers. They started stoning him mercilessly and thereafter set his body on fire. If this were not enough, they tied his corpse to a powerful motor-cycle and dragged it through the streets for two hours! After a pious show of Islamic morality, they felt that they had done enough to avenge the honor of the Prophet whom the Koran had been revealed.

 This type of Islamic morality is rampant, not only in the Islamic countries, but also in the lands where the Muslims have settled in sufficient numbers. To explain this point, I may quote Britain where I live. I wrote and published a book: "Eternity" in 1990. It challenges the basic concept of revelation, the foundation of prophet hood. As the Muslim organizations heard about it, they individually and severally issued a fatwa condemning me to death. Neither have they given me a chance to explain myself before a properly constituted tribunal of justice nor have they accepted my challenge for a public debate. Its consequences have been painful to me and my family. What I have stated above roughly delineates the Islamic morality in relation to legislated law.

 Now, I may briefly touch upon the second part of the issue i.e. the direct commands of Allah which are so evident that they need not be legislated: 2a. Jihad is one of them, and forms an integral part of the Islamic morality. It is an open behest of Allah to murder, pillage, rape and create widows and orphans for imposing Allah's will on the unbelievers, who are considered His worst enemies just for the "sin" of unbelief. Yet, Allah calls himself the Independent (Samad), All-Compassionate, All- Powerful and Creator of the whole universe! If Allah does possess all these qualities, how can He sanction the destruction of innocent people? If He were so desperate for worship, being the All- Powerful, Compassionate, Creator, He would have created humankind in such a way that everyone was born with the belief suited to God.

Instead of delving into this mystery, I hasten to add that Jihad or violence is considered holy by Allah, who, in return for persecuting, pillaging and paralyzing the infidels declares: "Allah has bought from the faithful their selves and their belongings against the gift of paradise; they fight in the way of Allah; they kill and are killed.." (Repentance: 110) A Hadith ( the saying of the prophet Muhammad ) declares: "Know that Paradise is under the shades of swords." (Sahih Bokhari, Ch. 22: 73 ) What is paradise? The Muslim scholars are usually embarrassed by this question and pretend that it is not physical but a condition of the mind. The above Koranic verse clearly states that it is a definite exchange i.e. offer of paradise for killing a non- Muslim or getting killed in the process of obeying this divine command. The paradise is the main temptation for practicing Islam.

This is the reason that the Koran explains it well. Paradise is the description of the luxurious surroundings dwelt in by Houris and Ghilman. Houris are the most beautiful ever-young virgins with wide, flexing eyes and swelling bosoms. Ghilman are the immortal young boys, pretty like pearls, clothed in green silk and brocade an embellished with bracelets of silver. Allah shall give every believing man no fewer than seventy houris and many ghilmans. To make sure that the lucky fellow can cope with them, Allah will increase his virility a hundred-fold! This is the ultimate goal of the Islamic morality, and it is why that the Muslims, who are usually depressed, are ready to practice convenient morality based on violence. Even more potent factor in this field is their staunch belief in the intercessory powers of the prophet Muhammad, which means that he has the authority to accommodate his followers in paradise irrespective of what they may have done. I shall deal with this point in the next issue of "Liberty."

 

Jihad 

Jihad, literally means "effort". Though the Muslim apologists will have us believe that this is what the term Islamic Jihad implies, this is a gross understatement because of the barbarity, brutality and bloody mindedness that the Islamic Jihad has come to represent in action. Just consult the pages of history to find out how the Muslim warriors waged a Holy War against Europe for no fewer than four hundred years to cut down half of its population. Chose Mujahedeen (the Muslim warriors) destroyed the Egyptian and Iranian cultures without the slightest provocation from these lands. India suffered terrible distortion, disgrace and devastation from these booty-hunters whose followers, even today, treat Bharat as Dar-ul-Harb (the battlefield), and are determined to convert it into an Islamic state through malice, mischief and molestation.

So complex is the doctrine of Islamic Jihad that its annotation is not possible without referring to what the Prophet Muhammad stood for, and the means he employed to achieve his purpose. The Arabs were pagans who indulged in idol-worship, which exhibits man's innate fear of the unknown and he bows before the supernatural to please him with a view to escaping his impending wrath. However, the Hindus do not adore the statues as such; they are power-worshippers: they revere Shakti (the Power) behind every natural phenomenon, called a god or goddess. The Arabian temples were deeply influenced by the Indian principle of triad (Trimurti), which represents plurality of gods but Muhammad vehemently opposed it and instead, preached monotheism, that is, there is no God but Allah, meaning that all other gods are false except the one whose cause he advocated. He emphasized that Allah has created man as His slave whose only purpose of life is to bow, bend and beseech Him.

To convey his purpose with greater clarity, he claimed that he was the Messenger of Allah and had been sent by Him to preach His name so that people should believe in Him and worship Him exclusively. Allah, he held, like Yahwe, the Jewish God, is a jealous Deity, who may forgive all sins except treating anyone as His equal and lauding Him. Thus, he laid a curse on all other gods and demanded their total destruction. Allah, he stressed, is Almighty, the Creator and Absolute, that is, independent of everything and desire. This definition of Allah does not stand up to a rational scrutiny. How can Allah be Almighty if He depends upon a man i.e. the prophet, to convince people of His existence and greatness? Again, if He is the Creator, He would have created man to believe in Him automatically. Finally, the God who ardently desires to be deified cannot be Independent or Absolute. From the above, it follows that the true God neither needs a prophet, nor prophet-hood is capable of serving His object. Therefore, the prophet Muhammad had an aim over and above his stated purpose. This is not a far-fetched statement look at the following verse:   "To you your religion, and to me my religion." (The Unbelievers, CIX: 5). Here, Muhammad is telling people openly that they are welcome to their religion and he will follow his own! If this be the truth, then he has nothing to preach, and therefore, he has no message from Allah. Since the prophet Muhammad was the founder of the Arab Empire, he could not have done so without a burning Political ambition. It is a historical truth that some people acquire temporal power as politicians but others realize their political dreams through the garb of spiritual leadership. This is especially applicable to the Middle Eastern countries where prophet-hood has been a cultural tradition since time immemorial. This is the reason that ruler of every locality ruled as the Vicar of God, that is, he asserted that God was in direct communication with him, and he acted according to His commands. What is called Vicar is another name for the Messenger (i.e. Prophet). And this is what Muhammad claimed to be. Obviously, like these Vicars of the Middle Eastern countries, Muhammad had a political ambition, and this fact is amply proven by his immense success as the Builder of the Arab Empire.  

His yearning however, was greater than that of a mundane ruler, an ordinary prophet and even God. When he was weak, he declared: "Say, I have only been commanded to serve God, and not to associate anyone with Him. To Him I call, and to Him I turn." (Thunder, XIII- 35). But when he became powerful, he turned the tables on Allah Himself: "God and His angels pray peace to the Prophet, O believers, you must also bless him, and pray him peace." (The Confederates, XXXIII: 55).One can see that the situation has been reversed here. First, it was Muhammad who prayed to God but now it is God and angles, who pray to Muhammad. The Koran goes even further to state: "Truly this is the word of a noble Messenger having power, with the Lord of the Throne secure, obeyed, moreover, trusty." ( The Darkening, LXXXI: 15-20). The Muslims interpret these verses to mean that on the day of Judgment prophet Muhammad will sit on the right hand side of Allah to share the Divine throne of justice, and it is his intercession which will decide who goes to heaven or hell. Here, Muhammad excels Allah by taking over his authority. Now, One can see Muhammad's plan of elevation clearly. First, he advocates destruction of idols so that they should not rival Allah, and then in the cloak of prophet hood, he becomes the object of praise of Allah and his angels and also makes it obligatory on all believers to follow this pattern! Jihad is the means to raise Muhammad above the mark of Divinity. Having preached in Mecca for thirteen years, he could secure just about seventy followers. This number was too small to act as God's army. In fact, most of the believers suffered terrible persecution for denying and insulting pagan gods. Eventually, Muhammad, along with his followers fled to Medina to escape the anguish. Even there, he desperately wanted to accelerate it because the wheel of his life was rolling on fast, indeed.

Crowning one's greatest desire is usually a difficult task. Since founders of the ruling dynasties had to use stratagems, practice convenient morality and wage dreadful wars to achieve their purpose, why should not the prophet of Allah raise an army of holy warriors to execute his ambition? Besides, he also had to settle old scores with the Koresh, people of his own tribe, who had done everything possible to destroy him and his mission. Man is fearful and dreads the consequences of war, but at the same time, greed is a part of his nature, and when his lower instincts are instigated with the promise of fulfillment, he forgets the difference between right and wrong to secure his end, which assumes sacred proportions to justify the means. Muhammad needed an army for the realization of his aim but people would not imperil their lives Without a suitable inducement. So, the Prophet conceived the Doctrine of Jihad; it apparently, means fighting in the way of Allah irrespective of whether the people to be fought against have done anything wrong or not. The Allah, who claims to be the Creator of all beings, the Most Merciful, and the Best Judge, has divided mankind into two sections. The Koran in The Disputer, LVIII: 20, clearly lays down that those who believe in Allah and Muhammad are God's Party and those who disbelieve are Satan's Party; the former are destined to be prosperous but the latter are bound to be the losers. This is because;

  "The true religion with God is Islam." (The House of Imran, III - 15 ). "It is He (Allah) who has sent his Messenger with the guidance and the religion of truth, that He may uplift it above every religion." (Victory, XLVIII: 25)

Since every religion except Islam is false, it is natural for Islam to dominate all other faiths. What a dictatorial philosophy it is! the crowning of this Divine attitude requires perpetual bloodshed of the non-Muslims by the Muslims, no matter, how innocent, upright and virtuous people the non-Muslims may be. Murdering them, plundering them, enslaving them and seducing their women is such a great act of piety in the Mohammedan lexicon that it guarantees paradise to the perpetrators. Such acts are universally looked upon as the root of evil and thus denounced, deplored and deprecated by the civilized world, but they have been admired, adored and adulated by the Koran, which claims to be the Word of God! What is even more stunning is the fact that warring against the unbelievers is an endless process because a hadith (Muslim: 3) states that the followers of  Islam must continue operation of violence until the faith of Muhammad prevails on earth.

In fact, a powerful army cannot be raised if its members are conscious of the demarcation between vice and virtue. Once, they are convinced even wrongly that only their god is pure, pious and perfect, and everything else is profane, putrid and perfidious, they become an invincible force. Realizing this fact, Muhammad devised the Plan of Jihad, based on Sex and Plunder:  

 

SEX :

Carnal gratification, man's greatest desire, is the first temptation that the concept of Jihad carries. A Mujahid i.e. the Islamic warrior, who at that time suffered pangs of sexual starvation in the torrid land of Arabia, was promised plenty of sensual enjoyment as a reward for participating in the carnage whether or not he survived the rigors of the battlefield. If he got killed, he was assured that the houris waited for his glorious company in Jannnat i.e. paradise, and if he survived, he had a share in the plunder, which included women of the infidels. Islam has prescribed flogging, and death-by-stoning for sexual offenses such as fornication and adultery because it holds such acts as unlawful when committed out of wedlock but when a Muslim "fights in the way of Allah" to murder the infidels and plunder their property, then the Koran relaxes this rule:  "And anyone of you who has not the affluence to be able to marry believing free women in wedlock, let him take believing handmaids that your right hand owns ......So marry them, with their people's leave, and give them their wages honorably as women in wedlock, not as in license or taking lovers." (Women, IV: 25) These verses demonstrate beyond a shadow of doubt that the Koran forbids sexual intercourse outside wedlock: marriage is a must for the fulfillment of sensual desires, but this law is blown off by the wind of change when it comes to a Muiahid (the Holy warrior):

During the battle of Autas, the Muslims captured some women along with their husbands. Though earlier, a Muslim had been forbidden sexual intercourse with an unbelieving married woman, at this occasion, it was revealed to the Prophet that Allah had relaxed this restriction and permitted copulation to the warrior if she had fallen to his lot in the battle and thus became his property. ( TIRMZI, vol. one, P 417 ) What a lure for becoming a fighter! Even the institution of marriage loses its varnish, value and validity. It must be remembered that having carnal relationship with one's concubine in the Byzantine Empire, was considered an offense punishable by death, but Islam, the true religion of God, permitted it at will!

Even the Prophet Muhammad himself indulged in this Divine Concession. Having forced the Jewish tribe of Banu Qureza to surrender as an exercise of Jihad, he put 800 men to death. Among the victims were the husband, father and brothers of Rehana, a twenty-year-old Jewish beauty, who fell into Muhammad's lot as his share of the plunder. Having presided over the massacre of the Jews, he returned to his tent where mournful Rehana awaited her fate. Charmed by her radiant figure, the Prophet proposed marriage to Rehana, sobbing with grief and utter frustration. Realizing that he was so impervious to other peoples' bereavement and sorrow, she refused to acknowledge him as the Prophet of God and preferred to end up as his concubine instead of wife.

Sex was a big bait to attract followers, and eventually, make them sincere devotees. After the people of Taif surrendered in February, 1639 AD to escape horrors of the siege, Muhammad was presented with three beautiful women; he gave one of them "to Ali, another to Usman and the third to Omar." To realize the significance of this episode, one ought to remember that both Ali and Usman were his sons-in-law and Omar was his father-in-law. The holy warriors of Islam have been given an unusual privilege of sexual merriment. If they survive the battle, they secure concubines but if they fall, they are sure to enter paradise full of houris, living in the most luxurious environment. See for yourself: " For them (the Muslims) is reserved a definite provision, fruit and a great honor in the Gardens of bliss reclining upon couches arranged face to face, a cup from a fountain being passed round to them, while, a pleasure to the drinkers ..... and with them wide eyed maidens flexing their glances as if they were slightly concealed pearls". (The Rangers, 40-45) "Surely for the God-fearing awaits a place of security gardens and vineyards and maidens with swelling bosoms." (The Tidings: 30) The houris are ever-young women who have wide eyes, flexing glances and swelling bosoms. Fancy the modesty of Allah and holiness of His manners. Can anyone honestly say that it is not a lure to attract followers? How desperate Allah is for votaries!

 

To bring out the veracity of this point, I may refer to HADITH TIRMZI, volume two (p 35-40) which gives details of the houris:

1. A houri is a most beautiful young woman with a transparent body. The marrow of her bones is visible like the interior lines of pearls and rubies. She looks like red wine in a white glass.

2 She is of white color, and free from the routine physical disabilities of an ordinary woman such as menstruation, menopause, urinal and offal discharge, child bearing and the related pollution .

3. A houri is a girl of tender age, having large breasts which are round, and not inclined to dangle. Houris dwell in palaces of splendid surroundings.

Now add to this description of houris what MISHKAT, volume three Says on pages 83-97:

4. If a houri looks down from her abode in heaven onto the earth, the whole distance shall be filled with light and fragrance .....

5. A houri's face is more radiant than a mirror, and one can see one's image in her cheek. The marrow of her shins is visible to the eyes.

6. Every man who enters paradise shall be given seventy-two houris; no matter at what age he had died, when he is admitted into paradise, he will become a thirty-year-old, and shall not age any further.

7. TIRMZI, vol. 2 states on page 138: A man in paradise shall be given virility equal to that of one hundred men. Need I add more to the sexual temptation that Islam offers to turn its followers into warriors?

2. PLUNDER

In fact, the word: "plunder" refers to sex as well, because amongst other things it also includes women. I have divided it into sex and booty to facilitate a better understanding of Jihad. A plunderer has got to be ruthless, and must have no sympathy for the victim. Nor must the rebuke of conscience mean anything to him. In fact, the more evil the cause the more righteous he must think of it. This is the reason that the Koran legitimizes booty:   "Eat of what you have taken as booty, such is lawful and good. " (The Spoils, VIII: 70) To make his followers, the merciless looters, he thoroughly drilled them in hatred of non-Muslims, the potential victims:  

1. "Surely the worst of beasts in God's sight are the unbelievers." (The Spoils: VIII: 55)  

2. " Certainly, God is an enemy to the unbelievers . " (The Cow: II: 90)

3. "Oh ye who believe! fight those of the unbelievers and let them find in you   harshness." (Repentance: IX: 123)

4. "Humiliate the non-Muslims to such an extent that they surrender and pay tribute." ( Repentance IX: 29)

Since it was plunder that paved the way to spread Islam, even those things that the Prophet himself had declared sacred, lost their sanctity when they proved inconvenient. For example, the Koran says: "Then, when the sacred months are drawn away, slay the idolaters (The non-Muslims) wherever you find them, and take them, and confine them, and lie in wait for them at every place of ambush" (Repentance, IX: 5) Rajab was one of the sacred months during which fighting is forbidden by the Koran. It happened that at Nakhla, the followers of Muhammad ambushed a caravan of the Koresh on the last day of Rajab. Had they not done so, the caravan laden with merchandise would have safely passed them under the protection of the Divine rules. Two of the guards, namely Othman Ibn Abdullah Ibn Al- Moghira and Al-Hakim Ibn Keisan were also carried off by them and were presented to the Prophet along with the booty. The Prophet did not look pleased, and said: "I never commanded thee to fight in the Sacred month." There is no doubt that the leader of the booty-hunters, namely, Abdullah Ibn Jahsh, who had been sent by the Prophet himself along with seven other men, was reproached by him, but there is no record that he ever returned the looted goods to their lawful owners. He did nothing to discourage this practice during the Sacred months; instead the Almighty himself suggested a way round it: "They (people) will ask thee (Muhammad) concerning the Sacred months, if they may fight therein. Say: fighting therein is a heinous thing but to bar from the way of God and to deny Him, to hinder men from the Holy Mosque, and to expel His people there from, is more grievous to God. Tempting (idolatry is more hurtful than slaughter." (The Cow, ii: 214) The concepts of sanctity and profanity mean nothing in themselves: what suits the purpose of Islam is a blessing but the opposite is a blight. Booty was undoubtedly the greatest attraction to the converts, though one must exclude the seventy odd refugees who accompanied Muhammad and the one hundred or so locals (ansaars), who had embraced Islam before his arrival in Medina. It was the Muslim love of booty that precipitated the first armed calamity in January, 624 AD known as the Battle of Badr. Not to speak of the believers, even the heathens of Medina, envied their converted fellow-citizens and wanted to take part in the battle. As the Prophet noticed them among his troops, he summoned them to his camel, and asked them what they were doing there: "Thou art our kinsman, " they replied, "to whom our city hath given protection; and we go forth with our people in the hope of plunder." "None shall go forth with me," said the Prophet, "but he who is of our Faith." Saying that they were great warriors, and would fight bravely on his side, and wanted nothing but plunder, they tried to proceed further but were stopped by the Prophet, who said, "ye shall not go thus. Believe and fight." Seeing no way out of the dilemma, "they believed and confessed that Muhammad was the Prophet of God." "Now," said Muhammad, "go forth and fight." "As they returned with booty, one of the Citizens (ansaar) exclaimed, "would that I had gone forth with the Prophet! Then I would have surely secured the large booty.

This episode narrated by Sir William Muir on page 215 of The Life of Mahomet, explains the significance of plunder in the Islamic doctrine and hardly needs any comments from me. It is Muhammad's victory in this battle, facilitated by the lust of loot, which made him what he became thereafter. One should also remember that the greed for booty kindled their hatred of non-Muslims, who happened to be their own kith and kin. The Koresh, who were the victims, held a meeting before the battle, where it was openly asserted: "When we have fought, and spilled the blood of our brethren and kinsmen, what use will life be to us any longer? Let us now go back " Eventually, it was the eloquence of Abu Jahl  and his companions, which turned the tables . On the contrary, the Muslims who wanted to act as the warriors of Allah to secure booty, no longer I acknowledged their blood ties with their kinsmen, find craved for fighting The Prophet said, "0 Lord! let not Abu Jahl, the Pharaoh of his people, escape." As the Battle was about to commence, the Prophet raised his hands and prayed: "0 Lord! I beseech thee, forget not Thy promise of. assistance and victory. O Lord, if this little band be vanquished, idolatry will prevail, and the pure worship of Thee shall cease from the earth. Allah, who is, obviously, liable to forgetfulness, and did not know what would happen if Muhammad was defeated, remembered his promise just in time and sent an army of angels to thrash the infidels so that the believers could reap the reward of booty.

The Prophet Muhammad knew the significance of booty in relation to his followers. At the battle of Ohad, as a part of his strategy, which was, indeed, wise, he posted archers to guard the opening caused by the receding hills so that the enemy could not attack his army from behind. He emphatically told his men, "Guard our rear and budge not from this spot; if ye see us pursuing and plundering the enemy, join not with us; if we be pursued and even worsted, do not venture to our aid." No command has ever been given more clearly and intelligently. It shows the military wisdom of the Prophet, which required total compliance but was flouted by the archers, who deserted their position to chase booty when they saw the infidels routed. Khalid, as he noticed the rear unguarded, swooped down on the army of Allah, and dispersed it with the might of his sword. Thinking that the Prophet himself lay dead, the Koresh did not pursue the matter further and returned to Mecca victoriously.

This episode clearly elucidates the significance of booty to these warriors of Allah: 

they fought for booty and lost for booty. What happened at the surrender of At- Taif in February, 630 AD clearly demonstrates that most of his followers revered him for his martial skill, which secured them booty. At this occasion, the Prophet took no prisoners for personal reasons. Of course, his followers from Medina and Mecca adopted the same attitude towards their captives but people of the Fezara tribe refused to accept the lead and had to be persuaded to act likewise. Having arranged restoration of the prisoners, as Muhammad mounted his camel to leave, he was mobbed by his own followers for not distributing the booty amongst them. They were afraid of forfeiting their share of the loot as they had been deprived of their prisoners. They crowded around him, and shouted: Distribute to us the spoil - the camels and the flocks." Rudely, they jostled him, and he was obliged to "seek refuge under a tree with his mantle torn from his shoulders . " "Return to me my mantle, O man- for I swear by the Lord that if the sheep and camels were as many as the trees of the forest in number, I would divide them all amongst you. Ye have not heretofore found me niggardly or false." The size of the booty was really large and The Prophet lived up to his promise. To powerful men like Abu Sufyan, his sons, and many others, he gave one hundred camels each; the lesser chiefs got fifty camels each, and even the share of those who had expressed discontent, was doubled. When a Bedouin complained that the true faithful like Joeil got nothing at all while the new converts had the most, the Prophet said: " .....I wanted to win over the hearts of these men to Islam, while Joeil has no need of any such inducement. "

It certainly shows the purpose of the Islamic Jihad, that is, plundering the non Muslims with a view to gaining converts and gratifying them. One must also note that, as fame of the Prophet's arms rang throughout Arabia, the Arab pagan tribes turned to him in hordes. All this happened to secure protection against any surprise Islamic raid, which had become the destiny of the infidels for not accepting Islam. An element of surprise, marvel and curiosity also formed a part of this submission. Arabia had not seen a man of Muhammad's stature before. However, this all took place during the last few years of the Prophet's life. Thus, the new converts had no experiential loyalty for the new religion. Possibly, the greater factor of their disappointment was the fact that the chances of further booty were practically nil because almost entire Arabia had come under the grip of Islam. What proved even more devastating was the fact that now the Muslims had to pay religious taxes such as Zukaat (the tithe). Thus, it is not surprising that, at the death of the Prophet, there was a terrible explosion against Islam, which curbed human freedom through restraints of faith and rituals. Most tribes of the Arabian desert rebelled against Islam to display their apostasy . Abu Bakr, The First Caliph of Islam, following example of the Prophet, made plunder the pillar of his foreign policy and unleashed the Arabian booty-hunters on Egypt and Iran. This is how the Arab Empire was founded, leading to the spread of Islam.

During the 20th century, Islam has lost its luster as the projected ambassador of peace, compassion and humanity in the face of the rising tide of human rights and the instinctive demand of justice for all. It has caused a lot of embarrassment to the Muslim propagandists. Therefore, to pull wool over the eyes of the non-Muslims, some Muslim scholars say that the Islamic Jihad is a

defensive war against the aggressors: " Permission is given to those who fight because they have been wronged " (The Pilgrimage, XXII: 40) Again: "And fight in the way of God with those who fight with you, but aggress not: God loves not the aggressors. And slay them wherever you come upon them, and   expel them from where they expelled you. (The Cow, II: 185) If the meanings of these verses were really what they appear to be, Jihad would be a blessing as being the guardian of one's rights and honor. in fact, they represent a tactful persuasion to take revenge from the infidels of Mecca, who had persecuted the Prophet and his followers in the beginning. These verses have nothing whatever to do with self-defense: "Will you not fight a people who broke their oaths and purposed to expel the Messenger, beginning the first time against you. Are you afraid of them? You would do better to be afraid of God, if you are believers. Fight them and God will chastise them at your hands and degrade them, and He will help you against them, and bring healing to the breasts of a people who believe " (Repentance IX: 10) "O Prophet, urge on the believers to fight, if there be twenty of you, patient   men, they will overcome two hundred; if there be a hundred of you, they will overcome a thousand unbelievers " (The Spoils VIII: 65)

One wonders that why Allah, who is Almighty, cannot thrash the unbelievers Himself, and incites the ordinary mortals to do His will? Is it not an insult to the Almighty? These are obviously not the commands of Allah but of Muhammad in the guise of Prophet hood. Look at the following to realize the revengeful nature of Jihad: "it is not for any Prophet to have prisoners until he make wide slaughter in the land." (The Spoils: VIII: 65) Jihad is simply an exercise in bloodshed for the sake of booty and subduing the non Muslims to pay tribute as a mark of self humiliation. One should bear in mind that it is considered a proof of aggression on the part of non Muslims not to embrace Islam when invited to do so; The Jews of Khaiber were subjected to surprise attack and destroyed on this pretext.

This truth is fully borne out by the following hadith: "I have been commanded to fight against (the Unbelieving) people, till they testify to the fact that there is no God but Allah, and believe in me (Muhammad) as the Messenger from the Lord ..... and when they do it, their blood and riches are guaranteed protection on my behalf except where it is justified by law." ( Muslim: 3)

Besides those who think of the Jihad as a defensive war, there are new sects of Islam which declare that it is a calumniation to say that Jihad is an Islamic doctrine. What a pious denunciation of the basic Koranic tenet it is! Look at the following:   "God has bought from the faithful their selves and their belongings against the gift of paradise; they fight in the way of God; they kill and get killed; that is a promise binding on God " (Repentance , IX : 110). It simply means that a true Muslim has sold himself to God in return for paradise; he has become his paid soldier whose only aim of life is to kill infidels or get killed! No wonder a hadith from Al Bokhari: 4, says that "Paradise lies under the shade of swords."

The Prophet also said: "Acting as Allah's soldier for one night in a battlefield is superior to saying prayers at home for 1000 years." (Ibne Majah, vol. 2, P 166). Now, one can see for one's self the violent nature of Islam, its purpose and the methods of securing it.
