1. Presentation of the mainstream culture, heritage, history, literature, politics and society of the Bangalees of Bangladesh.

2. Foster critical attitudes to life and reality

3. To offer alternative  texts (as official texts have been distorted, repressed, censored and misrepresented by the governments from the anti liberation bloc since 1975)  for the second generation of Bangalees (born overseas) or Bangalees with English as the first language and for the foreigners interested in Bangladesh or Bangalee culture and history.

Forum

Muktadhara is an initiative to encourage discussion among Bangalees worldwide  where individuals or groups with divergent assumptions, opinions and notions can engage in dialogue to achieve insights into individual, social and cultural realities they confront everyday.

Goals

The goals of Muktadhara are to: 

• Invoke rationality to challenge assumptions on social and individual levels so as to free our selves from long cherished prejudices of all kinds
•  
  Examine our assumptions and break social/cultural stereotypes by putting them into intellectual / philosophical cross current 
  
• Help the participants acquire and maintain a critical attitude towards life and society 
  
• Find answers, through discussion, for the questions the participants face in dealing with their individual, family and social lives
  

  Who to participate

  • Secular minded Bangalees who are under constant threat of persecution by the fundamentalists of all religious faiths, condemned and even exiled by the conformists and ignored by the establishment.
    
  • The iconoclasts and the non-conformists who are repressed and disgusted by the perpetual medievalism prevailing in our culture and society 
  • Expatriate Bangalees who are concerned about the future of their individual, family and social lives in alien cultures and are uncertain about the proper mode of interaction and cultural transfusion. They are likely to achieve reasonable solutions for their predicaments by participating in this forum as they can discuss the issues that tend to cause such disorientation.
  • Those who crave pursuit of knowledge, strive to be  informed, have the honesty to verify and update their knowledge and the guts to stand for it 
    
  • Those who are willing to cross examine their assumptions, beliefs and notions

  Conditions of participation

  The participants are expected to be respectful of all the political, social and cultural movements that contributed to the freedom of Bangalees from the colonial forces 
  

  The participants are expected to respect: 
  
  
  • The process of Bangalee independence from Anti British Movement through to Language Movement (21st February, 1952) to Victory Day (16th December, 1971) 
    
  • Our great war of independence 
    
  • The principles of the liberation war 
    
  • The martyrs of the war who laid their lives for  the liberation of the Bangalees
    
  • Bangalee women, the victims of the Pakistani invasion of our political and cultural geography 
    
  • The Bangalee intelligentsia murdered by Pakistani occupation army and their collaborators, the razakars, al-badrs and al-sams 
    
  • Discourses are expected to be logically consistent, secular, objective and rational. 
    
  • Issues raised have to be based on rationality as opposed to faith or belief 
    
    
  • The scope of the discussion is infinite as far as the basis is rationality instead of prejudice, faith, superstition, racism and sectarianism 
    
  • Right of participation is open to all irrespective of sex, creed or cult 
    
    
  • Eccentricity is acceptable, not egocentricity 
    
  • Every participant conserves the right to express his / her opinion as far as it doesn’t tend to suppress others’ opinions 
    
  • Any comments by anybody may be criticized or deplored as long as the mode of criticism is rational and objective 
    
  • All assumptions can be challenged and denounced irrespective of their reverence and significance in our society and culture 
    
  • Chauvinism of any form may be snubbed 
    
  • Open-mindedness is the precondition of participation 
    
    
  • All comments or opinions have to be elaborated if requested by the readers 
    
  • Social mores, values, beliefs and prejudices can be challenged and deplored if proved to constrict growth and progress
