National Awami Party (NAP) Bhashani

Foundation

July 25 and 26, 1957 in the conference for  " All Pakistan democratic activists", the National Awami party (NAP) was formed. The members and supporters of NAP comprised the leftists, the progressive and the liberalist. It was formed to transform Pakistan into a welfare state. Maulana Bhasani was the founding chairman of NAP. 

Contribution 

1. Raised demands to solve the catastrophic flood problems. They forced the Surawardy government to form the Croug mission to formulate policies to permanently solve the flood problem

2. NAP organized movements, time to time,  to help the poor farmers get fair prices for their produces. They also protested against the "Purja system" to help the sugarcane producers.

 3. Organized the cooperatives for the fishermen around the country. Proponent of the popular demand " he who owns the net owns the swamp". This movement yielded benefits to the poor fishermen.

4. Through movements NAP forced the government to adopt a fixed rate for the lease of the bazaars and hats (weekly open markets in towns) 

5. Time to time NAP organized processions in demand of reduction of taxes and revenues.

6. Demanded organize rations of rice, dal, oil and salt for the poor masses in the villages

7. Organized labor movements and organizations to create pressure on government to increase wages for the the laborers and introduce bonuses for them

8. Committed to educate its leaders and activists to help the people of Bangladesh achieve social democracy.

Enhance the independence movement. Organize the poor masses into political power.

Demerit (s) 

1. Copying Maoist political strategies at the expense of national interest. 

2. Helped validate the military rules of  General Ayub Khan

3. Failure to offer political direction in national political crisis

4. Lobbied for (Bhasani himself)  the release of war criminals and helped rehabilitation of the anti liberation forces in society and politics

5. Produced a number of politicos and war criminals such as Kazi Zafar, Anwar Zahid,  Mannan Bhuiyan

Strength

1. Ability to translate Marxism in plain Bangla which enabled Bhasani to organize the lower class/ destitute Muslims in the villages.
